Evolution

I was recently asked by someone who wasn’t well-versed in the science behind evolutionary theory to give her some talking points that she can use when discussing the issue of evolution with those who deny evolution.
My task was to keep it short, sweet and with as little jargon as possible.
Wow.
How to give a class on evolution that is explanatory but short. Detailed enough to support what’s understood about evolution, but not so detailed that the lay-person can’t follow it or at least gain enough interest to look at it further.
Why post this here?
As those who’ve read A Hot Cup of Joe in the past are aware, this blog is mostly about anthropology, specifically archaeology, but I also write about general science topics and skepticism (particularly as it relates to pseudo-archaeology).
Evolution denial is probably one of the single most misunderstood topics that is probably most abused by pseudoscience and creationism, and my stats show that there are a number of people who hit my blog as if they’re researching homework and the like. So I’m hoping this set of pages will offer some useful information to those that really haven’t made up their minds or have been reluctant to give the topic a lot of thought for fear that it might jeopardize beliefs they already have (which *is* possible, I’ll admit).
Mostly, though, I’m hoping that this will provide some talking points for the lay-person in their day-to-day discussions with those who have a creationist view or expectation and who reject evolution out of hand without actually processing evolutionary theory and what the science is telling us. Evolution is such a complex topic, this is easy to do.
