Fundamentalist debunkers (as opposed to true, open-minded skeptics) are too quick by half to dismiss the value of eyewitness reports, just as the people you label as "true believers" are more likely to accept them uncritically. Both are wrong. Any good lawyer or police officer will tell you that there is no such thing as a standard eyewitness report. Some are good, and some are not. The key is to always look for those cases - and they do exist where UFOs are concerned - where there is independent corroborative evidence, i.e. radar tracking. Multiple, independent witnesses, who report the same thing happening at the same time, are also more dependable.

Best regards,
Paul Kimball

Thanks for the kind words. If I hadn't ever set up a Sitemeter account, I probably would have given up blogging months ago! I see the article checked every now and then and I get lots of visitors... but, strangely, few actually comment :(

Thanks for taking the time to do that!

A very fine, insightful article, Carl. On one hand, I'm surprised that it has not garnered more comments since its writing; on the other hand, the "true believers" would probably not read it, and even if they did they would probably just flame you for raining on their paranormal parade.

In any case, I certainly will be linking to it.

Best,
RDB
http://strangegrub.blogspot.com
