Many chose not to for various reasons. Some aren't comfortable with the public spotlight; others want to respect their beliefs; still seek to avoid confrontation as a waste of time. He's also a good measuring stick for gullable. Very little of what he says makes any scientific sense at all, however you put a "doctor" in front of somebody's name there will always be a group of people who will listen to him.
